For what it’s worth, Jay Rock just dropped his most experimental album in years.
Jay Rock has been the foundation of Top Dawg Ent since its inception, and now he’s finally acting like it. Before announcing his third studio album, Rock accepted the challenge to shine among the Summer competition with a stellar project. Despite Kanye West’s jam-packed G.O.O.D Music release schedule, the Watts native delivers an experimental body of work with a squad of featured artists and producers who only magnify his music.
Rock comes through with 13 records that tests the extent of his versatility. He has a few unique solo tracks like “Broke +-” and “ES Tales” produced by Teddy Walton where he raps and vocalizes some of his bars. His TDE gang members Kendrick Lamar, SZA and SiR throw on on the LP, but his collaborations with J. Cole and Jeremih are the real bangers. “OSOM” sounds like it was made for Cole’s KOD album, and “Tap Out” has the potential to be Rock’s next big radio single.
