The inaugural Battlemania highlighted the best of Miami’s hip-hop culture behind the boards and on the mic.
Battlemania turned out to be the most unique hip-hop event Miami has ever seen in years. Hosted by myself and Wilameana Jones of Universe Miami’s “Wilameana’s World,” Battlemania, sponsored by Original Bumbu and Black Bottle girls, is a three-way battle that pins local DJ’s, producers, and artists head to head for a rare competition in front of a panel of judges and rowdy crowd of rap fans. The judges included Byron of Cleanface Management, Karen “KD” Douglas, and Vince Valholla of Valholla Ent.
Competitors like DJ BRE, DJ Ivory P of 103.5 The Beat, DJ H2 and Radio Jamez of Stamped In Da Streetz Radio hit the one’s and two’s to compete for the championship belt. Producers like The Pyrvmids and Nixon On The Beat participated in the producer battle while a slew of MC’s stepped up to the mic to prove themselves worthy of the grand prize. Other major artists like Prez P, Quise, and Young Breed of MMG all came through to support while O.Z. hit the stage with DJ Meat to perform a handful of street bangers including his buzzworthy single “Check.”
After three official rounds, a LIT performance from O.Z. and one intense tiebreaker, the judges named our inaugural champs along with help from the crowd. Radio Jamez of SNDS was named the winning DJ. Jay Hit Up defeated the competition (even the challengers from the crowd) to become the champion rapper. Meanwhile, the most intense battle was amongst the producers. Out of all the dope beatmakers that competed, DJ On Da Beat reigned supreme as the inaugural champion.
